The Denver Dynamite was one of the four original teams to play in the AFL’s inaugural season. The Dynamite also won the first ever AFL Championship, defeating the Pittsburgh Gladiators 45-16. Apparently, due to conflicts with the McNichols Arena, the Dynamite would take a one-year hiatus and resume play in 1989. This would be a relatively bad year for the league, with many neutral site games due to arena conflicts. As a result, the Dynamite had only one home game, against Maryland, which they won 20-15. The Dynamite would advance to the postseason, but would lose by two points to Pittsburgh on a neutral field. In 1990, the Dynamite began their season 4-1. However, the season ended with a loss at Dallas by a count of 26-25, and Denver’s record would fall to 4-5 for the year. After a 6-4 regular season in 1991, Tampa Bay would blow out the Dynamite in their final postseason appearance, 40-13 in front of almost 19,000 fans. The Dynamite would fold following the 1991 season. Arena football has returned to Denver in the recent years, with the Colorado Crush, who began play in 2003.
