Trenton Steel(SIFL)

Average Attendance: 3,291

The Trenton Steel was the first ever indoor football team to play in Trenton. The brand new franchise drew huge crowds. However, they dropped their first three games of the year, all by three points. A 34 yard field goal as time expired in Erie would be the franchise’s first win, 65-62. The team was later on the wrong end of the league’s highest scoring game, a 90-79 affair between the Steel and Erie Explosion in Erie. E.J. Nemeth quarterbacked the team, throwing for 3,169 yards, 70 touchdowns and just eleven picks. He also netted 160 yards on the ground and another 27 touchdowns. Oderick Turner scored 23 times, catching 68 balls for 1,084 yards. Damon Harrison and Dan Huff combined for 33 scores and over 1,400 yards. The team won eight of its final nine games and locked up a playoff spot. The Steel traveled to Columbus to face the defending SIFL champions. Nemeth passed for six touchdowns and ran for two, but a two point conversion with 30 seconds left in the game failed, resulting in a 62-60 Columbus victory.
