The Erie Explosion were an SIFL expansion team for 2011, replacing the Erie RiverRats of the AIFA from the prior year. Adam DiMichele quarterbacked the new team to a 9-3 regular season record. He threw for 91 touchdowns to just seven interceptions and 3,247 yards. Kevin Concepcion caught an astounding 46 touchdowns and racked up 1,502 yards. Tirone Morris snagged another 22 scores. Brothers Erick and Lenny Wicks combined to pick 15 passes and return five for scores. The Explosion played several exciting games. The Explosion lost on a 34 yard Trenton field goal as time expired. The team also won 90-79 over the same Trenton team in the highest scoring game in league history. Erie also took over an indoor football record, outscoring a semipro Fayetteville squad 138-0. This drubbing included nine defensive scores. On the other end of the spectrum, the Explosion also blew a 40-16 fourth quarter lead against the lowly Harrisburg Stampede, losing in the final minute, 41-40. Despite winning the Northeast division, the Explosion were forced to play on the road at Albany. Erie was never in the game, as DiMichele threw six interceptions in a 68-43 defeat.
