The Austin Wranglers skidded to an 8-8 opening season, losing their final three games. The team missed the playoffs, despite great efforts and a 1-1 record in overtime games. Unfortunately, things did not improve in 2005 and the team finished 6-10. The team’s biggest win was over Orlando and three of the wins were on the road. In 2006, the Wranglers were 10-6 and earned a playoff spot for the first time in franchise history. However, unlike many teams, Austin was unable to protect their house. Including the 52-35 loss to Philadelphia, the Wranglers finished the season 3-6 at the Erwin Center. The team fell back to a subpar level in 2007, winning just four games against Las Vegas, Utah, New Orleans, and New York. Eight of the twelve losses came by ten points or less. The team moved to the af2 for the 2008 season, a move not seen since the Iowa Barnstormers were sold and became an af2 team.
