The Salt Lake City Screamin’ Eagles were a new franchise for the IFL 2017 season. The team was owned by Project Fanchise and tried to introduce the idea of fan-driven gameplay, with fans voting on plays in real-time and other innovative ideas. However, it translated to a 5-11 regular season and a one year campaign in the IFL, with the league and team owners parting on bad terms. Verlon Reed was the quarterback for the entire season, passing for 2,734 yards, 54 touchdowns and 17 interceptions. His top target was Devon Mahina, who snagged 75 catches for 810 yards and 18 scores. James Calhoun led the defense with nine interceptions, bringing six back for touchdowns. Despite three of the team’s five wins coming against Colorado, the Eagles remained competitive, dropping five games by six points or less.
