The Cape Fear Heroes joined the X-League after several years in the AIF. The team resigned from the league near the end of the regular season due to a dispute between the team, Florida Marine Raiders, and the league office. The team could have gone for a 5-2 regular season record and playoff berth, but after the dispute, the league opted to forego playoffs and move to the title game.
