The Louisiana Swashbucklers got off to a good start in their new league. The team also snapped Odessa’s regular season win streak, by returning a botched Roughneck field goal for a touchdown. Louisiana also played in the only overtime game of the season, losing in double OT to Corpus Christi. In a playoff rematch with the Roughnecks, a late interception sealed a 53-50 victory for Odessa. The Swashbucklers returned in 2007 and were better than ever. Quarterback Freddie Harrison led the team for twelve regular season games, passing for 61 touchdowns to just nine interceptions. The team held opponents to just 68 total third quarter points. The team won its first thirteen games before resting many players for their final game against Odessa. The Swashbucklers defeated the Roughnecks the following week, 43-40 and went on to take the win in Intense Bowl III against Corpus Christi, 47-26. In 2008, the Swashbucklers remained the top power in the IFL. Alvin Bartie led the team to an undefeated regular season. The closest threat to the unbeaten season came with no time left on the clock at Alaska, where Travis Moses returned an interception 55 yards for a winning score. In the playoffs, Louisiana met Odessa. As usual, it was a dogfight that came down to a last-second field goal. As time expired, Odessa missed a game-winning field goal and Louisiana hung on 59-57. In Intense Bowl IV, the Swashbucklers romped the Corpus Christi Hammerheads 66-35, after trailing 20-9 in the first quarter.
