The San Angelo Stampede were an up and down team in 2004. The team was 4-2 in games decided by seven points or less, but were blown out three times. The Stampede finished their regular season with an 80-40 loss to Amarillo and a 91-40 loss against Odessa. The team hung on to the fourth playoff spot and earned a trip to Amarillo. The Dusters stomped the Stampede and went on to win the Intense Bowl. When the IFL disbanded, San Angelo joined the NIFL. When the IFL reformed, San Angelo rejoined and became the “Stampede Express,” one of the stranger monikers in indoor football. The team’s return to the IFL was not a pleasant one. The Stampede Express began their season at 0-5 and never recovered. The team pulled off an upset against the Odessa Roughnecks, the best game of the year. The Stampede returned in 2007, but with another losing season. This time the team went 4-10. Quarterbacks Donald Carrie and Zachary Wilson combined to throw for 49 touchdowns and 26 interceptions. The Stampede Express finished at 5-9 in 2008. The team’s unbalanced schedule forced them to play seven of their first ten games on the road. The team won just one of these games before finishing the year 4-0 at home. The team had three players spend significant time at quarterback Teavar Williams led the team in receiving touchdowns with thirteen.
