The Carolina Speed joined the SIFL after leaving the defunct AIFA. Despite just three wins, the team was usually competitive on the field. The team's first three losses came by a combined 21 points and five of the six remaining losses came by 15 or less. Antonio Miller spent the most time at quarterback for the Speed, throwing for 1,034 yards, 18 scoores and eight picks. Star wide receiver for the team, Cooter Arnold, caught 16 touchdowns and racked up 795 yards. Tan Cunningham led the team on the ground with 14 scores and 209 yards. The defense only picked opposing quarterbacks 12 times, but four were taken for touchdowns. The Speed also defeated Richmond by two points, which at the time, was a loss that knocked Richmond out of the playoff race.
