The Acadiana Mudbugs were a brand new franchise in the first year of the SIFL. The team was led by Bo Bartik, who threw 24 scores, but was picked 18 times. Anthony Parks was the leading receiver, catching 11 scores. Despite unimpressive offensive numbers, the team outscored opponents by an average of 35-33. A 6-5 regular season record included three consecutive losses to the Louisiana Swashbucklers and a third place finish in the standings. The team would play a road playoff game at Austin. Bartik passed for four scores and the Mudbugs led the TurfCats with under two minutes to go in the game. However, Austin tied the game on a Darrick Wallace touchdown with 30 seconds to go. The game went to overtime and Austin won on a David Bank two yard running score, following a fumble recovery by the Cats. Following the 2009 season, the Mudbugs became the Lafayette Wildcatters.
