The Charleston Sandsharks were a relatively unsuccessful expansion team in 2006. The team only won one game against a playoff team, and even that was taken away. Despite qualifying for the postseason at 8-6, the NIFL ruled that they used illegal players and their win against Montgomery was ruled a forfeit. The Charleston coaches said that the NIFL failed to pay them $40,000 in compensation for Florida not making their road trip to play the Sandsharks. The coach alao said that the NIFL had promised to pay $10,000 if the Sandshars were to make their postseason road trip. The team didn't trust the NIFL's word, so they decided to skip the playoffs. The Sandsharks then joined the World Indoor Football League for 2007.
