The Southwest Kansas Storm was a CIF expansion team for 2022. Giovanni Sanders quarterbacked the team most of the way, passing for 607 yards, fifteen touchdowns and twelve picks. Zuri Davis and Torrance Young-Carr combined for 13 receiving touchdowns and 611 yards. The Storm got out to a 5-2 regular season start, winning twice against Rapid City and winless Topeka, and once against Wyoming. However, the SW Kansas flaws were laid bare by Omaha, Sioux City, and Salina, as these games were not very competitive. After dropping three games to end the regular season, the Storm traveld to Omaha in the first round of the playoffs and fell 27-21. Mike Pina quarterbacked the Storm to a 3-7 regular season and playoff appearance in 2023, passing for 1,294 yards, 24 scores and just two interceptions. He also ran for 349 yards and seven touchdowns to lead all rushers. Torrance Carr was the leading wide receiver, hauling in 33 receptions for 381 yards and ten touchdowns. The three victories came against the Tropics and Marshals, allowing the Storm to make the playoffs. Southwest Kansas traveled to Gillette and narrowly lost 40-35, with a chance in the final seconds to upset the Mustangs that came up short.
