The Norfolk Nighthawks began as a promising franchise, going 10-6 in their first season. However, their inability to win on the road cost them a chance at a possible Arena Cup game appearance and they would lose their seventh road game of the season to eventual champions, the Quad City Steamwheelers. This would be the only winning season in the franchise’s existence, as the Nighthawks went 7-9 the next year, followed by back-to-back 8-8 seasons before the franchise folded after the 2003 season.
